Jin = Shaina Widmer Li = Lisa Hutchinson

JinLi is a collaboration of artist/writers Shaina Widmer and Lisa Hutchinson. We are the owners of Gold Plum Studio LLC, an effort to bring quality, affordable text-mixed-comic books, graphic novels and original art to the public. We met through a forum a few years back and since then have become best friends. We found that we were so much alike in our work and homelife, including our love for art and comics. We both had a comic background and as our relationship grew, so did our longing to work together. We are in the process of creating a few secular books for print and also the spiritual Shelter project, as well as comic resources for teachers and administrators, sold through our Gold Plum Studio LLC site. We are married to wonderful husbands, have children and have worked in the education system for public and private schools and homeschools for 20+ years.

Shaina

My husband and I have adopted 10 children, from infant to teenager, from around the world. I graduated from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada with a Bachelor of Science, and from McGill University with a Diploma of Education. After a few years teaching in schools, I found that many of my children, who spoke no English, needed the individual attention that home schooling provided. I have taught my kids for the past 18 years. I have only one left to graduate from high school. I have always loved creating small press books. In college I was the school newspaper staff cartoonist.

Lisa

I'm a wife and mom of three great kids ages 22, 16 and 14. I was saved (a true life changing experience!) during a missionary conference in my sophomore year of college. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Graphic Design from Tyler School of Art and have worked for various businesses including one for satellite TV. I've enjoyed different types of freelance work doing portraits, drawings, pastels, acrylics and watercolors but found it difficult to stay home and work with kids tugging at my feet! Since I didn't want to place them in daycare, I found a position as a before/afterschool coordinator/teacher in the local public schools while being able to take them with me. I later joined a preschool where I taught for 5 years until my youngest began to attend public school. After a developing passion for reaching people with comics, I began work as a full-time artist again until I completed my first book. After that, I worked in a private institution teaching elementary to highschool students, some with severe emotional needs. It was difficult and I found it exhausting, but what a rewarding line of work! At night I would continue to create comics, given the time and energy I had left. I'm in the process of working on a second graphic novel with Shaina's help, along with other Gold Plum Studio books.
